OMAK, Wash. -- Firefighters in Omak battled five fires Thursday afternoon along the east side of Highway 97. The fires all began around 1:00 p.m. according to fire crews.
Firefighter said a fire burning north of Omak is about 20 to 30 acres.
Three smaller fires combined near Sand Flat Road. Those fires damaged two buildings and threatened several others according to crews. They estimate the three combined fires are about eight acres. The fires forced crews to close West River Road.
A nearby business owner said that some families have been ordered to evacuate their homes. The Okanogan County Sheriff said there were also evacuations along West River Road.
A fifth fire is nearby and about 1/10 an acre according to crews.
