AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash.—A pursuit with a stolen vehicle ended near the Walmart in Airway Heights around 11:00 a.m.

Troopers with the Washington State Patrol confirmed that the pursuit began in Post Falls, Idaho. Authorities from several agencies between Post Falls and Airway Heights tried to stop the driver.

Troopers said the chase began near the Denny’s restaurant in Post Falls.

Officers were called to deal with a suicidal man. Police arrived and said the man ran from the scene to a nearby gas station. Troopers said that is where the man stole a vehicle and drove off.

WSP troopers began pursuing the driver when he crossed into Washington.  Troopers tried to stop the driver four times by laying spike strips along Interstate 90. The spikes were unsuccessful. The driver exited I-90 onto Highway 2 according to WSP.

Troopers said that authorities tried to pit maneuver the vehicle near Hayford Road. The hit was unsuccessful and the driver pulled into the Walmart parking lot. Authorities attempted to stop the driver again and the man surrendered.

Authorities estimated the driver was going between 50 and 80 miles-per-hour during the chase.
