SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash.—A high speed pursuit and violent crash sent three people to the hospital Sunday in Spokane Valley.

Authorities closed the intersection near 24th and Sullivan for four hours to investigate the crash.

Investigators said it started when an officer attempted to pull over a male driver acting suspicious.  They said the suspect hit the gas and took off instead, starting a pursuit.

The chase ended when the suspect slammed head on into a car carrying Mikayla Hood and her teenage sister.  They were rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

24 hours after the crash Hood still had trouble recalling exactly what happened. "This car driving right in front of us and hitting we and I tried to swerve."

She thinks she passed out briefly after that but then heard the sirens. At the time, she wasn't aware that she stopped a police pursuit.

The suspect took off from the crash scene but police caught up with him in a corn field a short distance away.  He was also taken to the hospital to be checked out.  No word yet what charges he faces.

Hood and her sister are still sore.
