KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) -- An advisory board says $115 billion may not be enough to finish the environmental cleanup work at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.

The Tri-City Herald reports the Hanford Advisory Board sent a letter to the Department of Energy and its regulators on Friday saying the estimated cost of the cleanup does not include some of the work the board expects will be needed.

The $115 billion estimate is the conclusion of the 2011 Hanford Lifecycle Scope, Schedule and Cost Report. That's a new requirement of the agreement the DEO negotiated with Washington state and the Environmental Protection Agency to extend some environmental cleanup deadlines.

The report estimates how much it will cost to finish environmental cleanup in about 2060 and then prevent the waste from spreading.
