NEWMAN LAKE, Wash.-- A Newman Lake man has been cleared by prosecutors after shooting and killing an intruder in his home last month.
Doug Snarski is relieved to know prosecutors agree with what he believed all along. He said he had to kill his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend before he killed them.
Newly released 911 tapes give the public an idea of the murderous intent of the intruder.
Almost a month later, all charges are being dropped and Snarski’s gun will be returned to him.
“It feels good because I never thought I’d ever use it, and when I did actually use it, it ended up saving my life,” Snarski recounted.,
He successfully used his gun that night, which was no easy task given how the intruder was working his way up the stairs, firing his shotgun as Snarski waited in his bedroom with his girlfriend. He had his cell phone in hand to make it clear to 911 what was happening.
He’s now having the carpet replaced where the intruder’s blood covered the stairs, but even if memories of that night are out of his house, they are still close in his mind.
“You hear a little bump in the night, or whatever. It makes you stop and think, ‘Is there somebody back in my house again, or is it just the dog wagging his tail?’” Snarski said.
Snarski now recommends owning a gun to his friends since the shooting.
