SPOKANE—Women across the country are learning about heart disease during the month of February.
An event Wednesday in Spokane is aimed to raise awareness of heart disease and prevention efforts among women. The local chapter of the American Heart Association is hosting an annual luncheon to educate women about the deadly disease. It is also designed to raise money for research and care.
Nearly 500 people are expected to attend the luncheon. Organizers hope to raise nearly $150,000 through the event.
Heart disease is the number one killer of women in America. Heart disease kills one in three women every year compared to one in 30 women who die of breast cancer.
