SPOKANE -- The very first same-sex weddings took place all over Washington state Sunday.

Matthew Dill and Chris Rogers were the first in line to obtain their marriage license Thursday at the Spokane County Courthouse.

The couple wed Sunday afternoon, after a three day waiting period expired.

Dill and Rogers qualified for domestic partnership a year ago, and have been waiting to get married ever since.

They have been planning their wedding since election night in November. The ceremony they envisioned was simple, surrounded by the people who are closes to them.

Washington voters approved Referendum 74 in November with 54 percent of the vote. The measure asked voters to either approve or reject the state law legalizing same-sex marriage that legislators passed earlier this year.

Dill and Rogers said they are grateful to the Washington voters who made equal marriage rights a reality.
