SPOKANE, Wash. -- A local branch of the Fred Meyer chain will shut its doors.
The Francis Fred Meyer will close permanently on January 31.
“This is a very tough decision, and one we do not make lightly,” Melinda Merrill of Fred Meyer said.
This is the first time the grocery chain has closed a store in nearly a decade. Meyer attributes this closure to being unable to negotiate a profitable lease with the landlord.
Fred Meyer owns 133 stores. The 167 employees at the Francis store will be offered positions at one of those locations.
