LIBERTY LAKE, Wash.— Firefighters fell through the ice on Liberty Lake Thursday trying to rescue a deer. Crews managed to pull themselves and the deer to safety.
Spokane Valley Fire Department crews headed to Liberty Lake around 10:30 a.m. to save the a deer that had wandered onto the ice. Firefighters from the Liberty Lake and Greenacres stations also responded to MacKenzie Beach to assist.
On the first attempt, firefighters wearing ice rescue suits fell through the one inch thin ice and had to use their backup plan.
Authorities said firefighters eventually used an ice rescue sled made their way out to the doe. Firefighters secured the deer and were pulled by ropes to shore.
