BAYVIEW, Idaho -- An elderly couple lost their home Thursday after a fire ripped through their house, garage and shed.

Officials say that around 3:25 a.m., tones were sounded for a fully involved structure fire on the 33000 block of Spruce Street in Bayview, Idaho.

The residents, Roy and Bertha Clanton, woke up to sounds coming from a structure in the rear of the property and noticed smoke and a red glow.

Smoke detectors did not alarm to the amount of smoke entering in through the windows.
Arriving crews found the home, attached garage, large shop/garage in the back and a smaller shed also in the rear of the home on fire with flames involving nearby trees.  The couple made it out safely with their two dogs.

A total of three alarms were called bringing fire responders from Timberlake, Northern Lakes, Spirit Lake, Sagle, Coeur d’Alene, and Kootenai County fire districts along with deputies from the Kootenai County Sheriff Department.

The American Red Cross arrived within an hour to offer assistance to the Clanton’s.  Due to several offers and help from neighbors and arriving family members, the Clanton’s chose not to take advantage of the Red Cross at this time.

No residents or firefighters were injured in the incident.

The house was considered a total loss. Several vehicles and at least two boats were destroyed in the fire.
