HAYDEN, Idaho -- Charred remains is all that is left of a raging house fire Wednesday night. Fire crews responded to the 2200 block of East Woodstone around 9:30 p.m. It took firefighters all through the night to put out the flames.
The owners, Todd Sloan and his wife were watching T.V. There was a small chimney fire. Northern Lakes Fire was called but Todd thought he put it out on his own. The department's thermal imaging cameras found nothing. An hour later, smoke filled the living room around the same chimney. Within minutes, the Sloan's dream home was beyond saving.
"It was very spectacular. Once we got out and once the fire broke through the first part of the roof, the whole roof lit off and it was just a giant mass of flames," said Todd.
This is not the first time they've lost their house. 16 years ago, when they lived in Malibu, California, wildfires destroyed their home there as well.
Northern Lakes Fire is still investigating a cause. The department has the same complaint Sloan does. When they tried to put out the fire, there was almost no water pressure. Messages left for the water district were not returned.
Meanwhile, the Sloan's will stay in a rental home nearby and try to start the new year thankful.
