SPOKANE - Firefighters had to block off North Monroe Street in Northeast Spokane late Monday night to battle a garage fire.

Fire crews were called out around 11:30 p.m. Monday when they got a report of flames shooting out of a garage on Monroe and Dalke.

A neighbor and a group of women across the street were playing Monopoly when one of them saw the fire, called 911, then ran over to get everyone out of the house.

Avista said one house lost power in the incident.

The group of women used a hose to keep another neighbor's garage from catching fire until crews arrived.
