One person killed in Soap Lake apartment fire

SOAP LAKE, Wash.—Authorities launched an investigation into an apartment fire that left one person dead early Sunday morning in Soap Lake.

An elderly man was killed and dozens of people displaced by the fire that completely destroyed all six apartment units at Soap Lake Gardens, near the intersection of 4th Avenue and Division Street according to the Ephrata Fire Department.

Fire officials said five agencies responded to the fire that started at about 2 a.m.  Authorities said it was not immediately clear what caused the fire, but investigators were on scene.

The Red Cross is helping families displaced by the fire.  Leaders said fewer than 20 people sought aid on Sunday.
