SPOKANE – A Spokane landmark is back in business after months of repairs; Ferguson's Cafe started serving customers Monday.
A destructive fire ripped through the eatery and the historic Milk Bottle restaurant next door last September. The Milk Bottle reopened in May.
Fire investigators said the fire started in some cardboard and plastic items located between the two buildings, but they never determined what ignited it.
Owner Dave Jones stuck with the old color scheme. Pictures salvaged from the fire hang on the wall. The movies “Benny and Joon” and “Vision Quest” both featured scenes filmed inside Ferguson’s.
One thing has changed. The kitchen where Jones does his magic, no longer hides in the back.
“Some people probably say it was better when I was in the back,” he joked. “Cook’s good, but I don’t have to listen to him talk.”
Jones had eight employees before the fire. He said all but one has returned.
