SPOKANE-- The Spokane Police Department says Hoopfest 2012 was relatively quiet as far as fights and scuffles.
Fights aside, it’s an intense day for players, and for kids, it could be arguably worse.
The youngest Hoopfest players say it’s a lot of pressure trying to win while their moms, dads and grandparents watch every move.
Every shot and every foul counts for these elementary school athletes.
Some parents aren’t afraid to step in when they don’t like how the game is going. KREM 2’s Honora Swanson saw one feisty father who wasn’t afraid to jump on the court himself.
Referees say they aren’t afraid to step in when it’s necessary. Sometimes even court marshals step in to let parents know the rules.
Most of the parents we spoke to though, overall, say they are proud to watch their kids participate in the tradition.
