Spokane – A young girl is recovering at Sacred Heart intensive care after a car hit her Sunday.
Danny Packard was pulling his 2-year-old on a bicycle trailer near the intersection of Argonne and Maringo Drive in Spokane Valley.
He said a man sped around a corner in his car. Packard could not get off the road in time and the car hit the trailer his daughter was in.
Authorities say the driver did not stop after he knocked the trailer loose from the bike. Packard was relieved to find out his daughter was still in the trailer.
“Her eyes were open. She started to cry as soon as she saw mom and dad. We just kind of knew, okay, she's alive and that help is coming,” he said.
Witnesses followed the driver to a nearby apartment complex and told deputies where he was at.
Authorities identified him as 22-year-old Timmy Nguyen, a Gonzaga University Law student. He faces vehicular assault charges.
The little girl is being treated for fractures to her wrist and skull.
