SEVEN MILE, Wash. -- A family in the Seven Mile area is cleaning up after much of their garage and basement damaged by flooding.
Late Wednesday afternoon Terry and Audrey Adams’ home flooded. Runoff from the nearby Coulee Creek made its way into the house for the first time in decades.
The garage filled with water in less than 45 minutes. It was as high as four feet.
“Everything was floating, all the furniture, stereo gear, we have a stove down there, and it was clear up to the windows. I was pretty tough,” said Terry Adams.
The Adams’ pumped out the water overnight and Thursday morning family and friends came over to clean out the garage.
“These chunks of ice blocked the creek and flooded the home yesterday. Today they’ve spent much of the day cleaning up the garage and taking out some of these same chunks of ice,” said Doug Oylear.
The crew shoveled out mud, water and huge pieces of ice. Then Terry and the other took turns hauling it out.
Much of the garage was cleaned out Thursday but you could still see the water line.
The family recently added new cabinets and rebuilt their bathroom now they are completely ruined. Much of the house will need to be stripped down to its basic structure before they can repair the damage.
