AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. -- Officials at Fairchild Air Force Base said loss of funding from automatic budget cuts would have an immediate and negative impact on the base and its workers.
The Department of Defense would lose $46 billion if the cuts take affect.
Capt. Ken Scholz said 460 people non-uniformed employees would be furloughed; he expects those workers would lose 22 days of work
Fairchild also expects to scale back maintenance and remodeling delays to non-emergency buildings.
Aerial refueling operations would not be affected by the cuts, Scholz said.
