SPOKANE-- The spouse of the woman who is accused of leaving her children on Interstate 90 is trying to get them out of foster care.

Shannon Duval's ex-wife, Elizabeth, said she does not understand why their children were found along on the freeway.  After the two women got a divorce over the summer, Elizabeth moved away.  After hearing what happened to the children, Elizabeth is on her way to Idaho to get them back.

"I don't know what she was thinking," said Elizabeth.  "I don't know the circumstance.  I don't know why that's what she felt like she needed to do."

The former couple's 3 and 6-year-old boys were placed in a foster home.  Shannon was taken to jail.

"I'm more upset than anything.  She is my ex-wife and I do love her very much.  I care about her and I want the best for her and all the children.  I wish that she would have just got a hold of me and asked me for help," said Elizabeth.

Shannon appeared in court on Wednesday.  Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said she claimed amnesia.  Her ex-wife said she was not aware of any conditions or strange behavior while they were married.

"She's always been a great mother.  She's always taking care of them and providing for them." said Elizabeth.

Elizabeth said Shannon gave birth to both boys.  When the couple split up, Shannon got custody.  Elizabeth is working to figure out if she can get them back.

"I just want to tell them that I love them and miss them.  I'm coming to get them.  I'm going to do everything I possibly can to make sure that they are in my good care," said Elizabeth.

Shannon is due in court again next week.  She is facing felony injury to a child charges.
