SPOKANE -- A Spokane man in his late 70's has been upgraded from critical, to serious condition, after driving his car into a pool on Spokane's South Hill.

Rescuers responded to the scene around 3:30 p.m. Saturday at home near the intersection of 37th and Glenrose.  Herbert Robinson was conscious in the car when crews arrived.  But when they pulled him out, he lost consciousness.  He was taken by Medstar to Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Robinson's family tells KREM 2 News that he was suffering from a diabetic condition and was swerving on the road. A stranger saw him and followed him for about 20 minutes. When Robinson drove into the pool the man jumped in after him to try and save him.

Investigators say Robinson drove off 37th, plowed through a large field in the front of the house and then landed in the backyard pool.
