CHENEY, Wash.--A fraternity at Eastern Washington University passed out red, white and blue ribbons on campus and throughout the Cheney community on Friday to make sure fallen service members were not forgotten.

The number or ribbons passed out represented the number of service members killed in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The members of Sigma Phi Epsilon passed out 6,805 ribbons.

“This is the smallest thing we can do to give them that recognition, especially for the fallen soldier who gave the lives in combat for our freedom essentially,” said fraternity member Antonio Montez.

Fraternity members also placed 148 American flags in the front lawn of their house. Each flag represented a fallen Washington State service member from the two wars.

Fraternity member Kyle Dodson hoped their efforts would serve as a reminder for all to remember the nation’s true heroes on Memorial Day.

“Operation Not Forgotten is real near and dear to me. I've personally been affected. My sister's fiancé was killed in Iraq, and this is just one way to honor him and all of his brothers who've sacrificed so much,” said Dodson.
