SPOKANE, Wash. -- Police said a driver would be charged with assault after a crash in North Spokane Wednesday morning.

The collision happened at Francis and Crestline around 2 a.m.  Authorities said the driver at fault, Brian Hoofman, 25, was driving under the influence.  Hoofman was being charged with two counts of vehicular assault along with two counts of assaulting an officer.

Hoofman and the driver and passenger in the other vehicle were all transported to the hospital.  The male driver in the other car suffered life-threatening injuries.  His female passenger sustained critical injuries, according to authorities.  Hoofman was later released and booked into jail.

The crash shut down traffic in the area but the roadway has since reopened.
