SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Spokane Police Department says they are seeing a dramatic drop in crime over the past few months.

When New Chief Frank Straub took over his first order of business was to tackle crime in the area. Since the beginning of the year, the department says it has knocked down crime a full 20 percent.

Assaults and robberies are both down as well as larceny.

Spokane regulars say police are changing the scenery downtown by increasing patrols in the area.

Police say the added emphasis downtown allows them to respond as needed and as fast as possible.

Officers hope to duplicate these results in other hot spots around town as well.
