SPOKANE--Two weeks ago city officials extended free parking downtown and changed the look of their parking enforcement vehicles.  Downtown businesses and the people who use those spots say they’re noticing a difference.

The City of Spokane launched a new look late last month, including different logos and stickers downplaying enforcement and encouraging interaction.  They also started offering free parking from 5 to 7 p.m. during the holiday shopping season.

Parking staff got special training to help guide visitors around town, but while they hope to be more helpful, the city says it’s important people remember the role their staff play in our economy.

Those who frequent downtown say they want to see parking enforcement stay in the holiday spirit after the season is over.

Free parking in downtown Spokane from five to seven each night runs through the first weekend in January.
