SPOKANE, Wash— A friend of the manager of the Brickhaven apartment complex on Atlantic St. where a fire destroyed ten units on Saturday began collecting donations for the families affected.
Red Cross caseworkers said 41 displaced residents checked into an emergency shelter at Spokane Friends Church.
After learning about the fire, April Kinney set-up a Facebook to raise awareness and help the displaced families start over. She and her friend, Nichole Kenson, began driving around Spokane County to pick-up donations that ranged from baby food and diapers to clothing and bedding.
On the North Atlantic fire recovery Facebook page, Kinney said she and Kenson planned to pick-up donations from anywhere in Spokane County between the hours of noon and 8 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
