GRANT COUNTY, Wash.—A crack at the base of a Wanapum Dam spillway has forced workers to draw down the water behind the dam.
Officials said reports that the structure along the Columbia River is “bulging” are incorrect.
Divers inspected the Wanapum Dam Thursday. An official confirmed that there was structural damage found in a concrete pier. The official described the issue as a “crack at the base of a spillway.”
As a precautionary measure, water is being drawn down while inspectors investigate the issue. In the meantime, Wanapum Dam continues to generate electricity.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is assisting in the investigation.
