SPOKANE--Two Spokane-area Red Kettle drives received surprise donations over this holiday season.
Inside one kettle, volunteers found a note wrapped around a coin. The note said “I’ve saved this ounce of silver for twenty years, I’m unemployed for 13 months, my house is in foreclosure, I’m filing for bankruptcy and at 61 my retirement is shot but I still know there are families in worse shape.”
The coin has an estimated value of $30 but the Salvation Army believes the message it shares is worth much more.
The Salvation Army also received a diamond ring wrapped in a dollar bill from an anonymous donor. The ring is valued at $5,000.
