SPOKANE-- Kidds Dentistry in Spokane and Liberty Lake are trying to keep kids healthy during Halloween by offering to pay for children’s candy.  They will pay one dollar for every pound of candy kids turn in to them.

The dentists that make up the group said they hope this will empower kids to make good healthy choices and use the money to buy something fun.

Last year they brought in close to 400 pounds of Halloween candy and this year they're working to bring in 1,000 pounds at each of their two locations.

The candy won't be going to waste. All the treats will be packaged and sent overseas for military members to enjoy as part of Operation Gratitude.

"If a child sells back their candy and get five or six dollars for all their hard work, they leave happy, the candy is out of the house and you can probably save the parents hundreds of dollars in what potentially could be a future dental bill," said Kidds dentist Dr. Jared Evans.
