NEWPORT, Wash. -- The Washington State Patrol is investigating a deadly accident that happened just north of Newport on Highway 20 in Pend Oreille County Wednesday morning.

Troopers on the scene tell our KREM 2 News crew the man driving eastbound in a truck hit a deer. They say the deer went through the windshield and likely killed the driver on impact. His truck kept moving until it hit some trees down an embankment.

Investigators are not releasing the man's name until his family is notified.

The wreck did not have a major impact on traffic through that area.
