SPOKANE-- A five-year-old girl was riding a bicycle with her mother’s boyfriend in north Spokane when she fell off and later died.
Now, the girl’s biological father wants to know if charges will be filed.
It’s been more than a month since the girl died, and detectives are still working on the investigation.
Matt Droke says when his daughter Marissa fell, she was in his ex-wife’s custody when she hit her head on the ground. As Droke waits for detectives, he looks to others for answers.
“My seven-year-old was there. He’s just now starting to talk about it and kind of relay what he saw. It was a BMX [bike] with trick pegs. She was actually on the front facing backward,” Droke said.
The detective on the case says there are only two people in the entire county serving the unit that investigates road incidents. He says the budget does not allow for more resources.
Droke tells KREM 2 he just wants justice, if it’s deserved.
“I don’t know what I really want out of it. I can’t get her back, so there’s not much at this point. I just want to find out what happened and what’s going on,” Droke said.
The Sheriff’s Office usually takes three to four months for a full investigation. The detective hopes to release more answers to the family in the next few weeks.
