SPOKANE, Wash. -- A recent court case appears to take the term ‘biting the hand that feeds you’ to a new level. Authorities said Ronald D. Roberts is a career criminal. His record dates back to 1986 and Tuesday night he hit the people who had worked to defend him in the past - the Spokane County Public Defender's Office.
"It is ironic but really with offenders like this it's a matter of opportunity. It could have been any business and he would have hit them," said Lt Mike McCabe with the Spokane Police Department.
Officers believe they caught Roberts red handed.
"His back pack had the puffy jacket witnesses saw and a laptop from the public defender's office," said McCabe.
Spokane Police were on scene 60 seconds after the burglary report came in. Police said Roberts was with the goods just a few blocks away.
"As prolific of an offender as he is we've definitely prevented other crimes from occurring,” said McCabe.
Roberts’ last charge prior to Tuesday night was burglarizing a home in Cheney.
