SPOKANE VALLEY—A 48-year-old Spokane Valley man died Tuesday when he was hit by a car in his own front yard.

The crash occurred at 32nd and Glenn, just east of University.

Officials say the driver, 36-year-old Claudia Salazar, only had a learners permit. There was a licensed driver in the car, as well as two children.

The woman apparently confused the gas and brake as she rounded the corner and lost control.

Police say the woman hit and killed 48-year-old Wesley Abney in his front yard.

Crews worked to extricate the man from the wreck. None of the people inside the vehicle were injured.

No drugs or alcohol were involved.

Officials had to call an interpreter because the woman was Spanish speaking only.
No charges have been mentioned.

Officials expect 32nd will be closed for a couple of hours.
