GRAND COULEE, Wash.-- Firefighters made significant progress on the Barker Canyon Complex fires burning near Grand Coulee.
This fire is made of two separate brush fires: the Barker Canyon Fire and the Leahy Fire.
Flames have charred more than 78,000 acres, and at last check, it was 20 percent contained.
Firefighters stopped flames from burning numerous homes, but three did burn, along with nine other small buildings.
Winds reaching 35 miles per hour strengthened the flames Monday, but crews have caught up with the fire.
There are no evacuation orders in place, and Highway 174 is back open. Officials say this is no longer a threat.
