SPOKANE VALLEY --- Firefighters crews battled a suspicious house fire in Spokane Valley.

The building was located on E. 4th Ave. and S. Chronicle Rd. Our crews could see the flames from Interstate 90.

Officials told KREM 2 News the fire started suspiciously when something was lit on fire near the house, then the flames spread.

According to neighbors there was an eviction noticed attached to the front door. Neighbors also told KREM 2 News they saw a couch on fire outside of the home. The flames then spread to the house.

Neighbor Julie Pinyan watched as flames devoured this empty home. “I could see smoke barreling out next door. At first I thought it was mine,” said Pinyan

Pinyan's son Richard battled the fire with a hose to protect their home.

Fire crews were able to knock down the fire before it spread to another home.

The fire is under investigation.
