SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- Spokane Valley deputies tracked down a rifle stolen from a home Monday during a traffic stop.

Police pulled over Eric Geissler, 40, near Fancher and Sharp around 11 p.m. Thursday.

Deputies say Geissler was noticeably nervous when they approached. He told them police made him nervous because he’s a convicted felon.

Police say they found a rifle in his car’s trunk after he gave them permission to search the vehicle. Geissler reportedly told them he was holding the gun for a friend, even though it was the same rifle stolen in a burglary on Jan. 7.

The homeowner told police she did not know Geissler.

He was booked into the Spokane Co. Jail for possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, third-degree driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance for meth, which was allegedly found in the vehicle during the search.
