COEUR D’ALENE-- Investigators in Coeur d’Alene say they're dealing with an alarming spike in crime and as summer continues officials say that number could climb even higher.
Thefts are up almost 40% compared to previous years. Officials say they are seeing a jump in car and business break-ins.
Car burglaries are up compared to last year, with 257 reported. That is a 2% spike from last year.
Records show residential burglaries are up more than 30% compared to last year, with 140 reported this year.
Business burglaries doubled over the past year, especially from may to June when break-ins went from five to ten. There were only four in January.
Crime is up 40% in 2012 compared to years passed in Coeur d’Alene.
