KALISPELL, Mont. -- A 67-year-old Montana man stuck on a remote mountain road says he was preparing himself for death.  But after four days a Coeur d'Alene couple came to his rescue.

Louis Rogers says he left Montana's Flathead region last Thursday to make a trip to Calder, Idaho.  He decided to take the remote Gold Creek Road near St. Regis, Montana.  The road got too snowy for Rogers' Cadillac so he decided to turn around, and got stuck in a snowbank.

Rogers says he has health problems and decided to wait for help.  He survived on melted snow.  He says he thought he was going to die, and even wrote a goodbye letter.

On Sunday Coeur d'Alene couple Scott and Penny Kalis came by in their four-wheel drive vehicle and brought him back to civilization and food.

Sit on it Graham. The old adage: If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. That means you and all the other like minded people making rude comments. To the Kalis family, Yes, God did send you to him. Ask and ye shall receive. He asked for help and you showed up. Lou, I'd love to hear your music some day. Glad you're still with us.

so let me see if I follow.... It's not stupid to take a Cadillac on a mountain pass in winter, and in California, they would rather kill you than help you. Some of y'all really are kinda warped on yr persepctives. I'm sure that if you asked Mr Rogers himself, he'd be the first to tell you how STUPID it was to do what he did. HE ALMOST DIED! I'm sure he's a smart guy and all, but to act like what happened wasnt a stupid error in judgement, well that's ignorant on y'all part. I mean, we are all glad he's safe and sound - but yeah, it's STUPID to drive unprepapred on back-country roads. Remember that fam that did it a cpl winters ago of off I-5 in Oregon somewhere, guy died on his way looking for help and luckly the rest of the fam was found before they froze. NOT a WISE IDEA, ppl, plain and simple. Ask Mr Rogers - he's MORE than sure he's man enough to tell you the truth on how stupid it was to do what he did....

Lou Rogers is not an idiot! He is a country boy, he knows the roads, and yes he is a musician, (probably the best around, and the picture is from one of his albums), not a wanna be cowboy ad............I am so so thankful that he was found........we here in Northport didn't know he was missing, or would have ALL been there searching. Though not blood related, Lou has been in our family for over twenty years, my children all call him uncle Lou, as do their children. We are thankful he is ok.....i received an e-mail from him tonight, a little shook up but he will be fine...........we love you Uncle Lou

Great job of reporting, KREM: I cannot judge this man for it could have happened to anyone! With so little snow this year he may have thought that there would be little up high as well! I have been stranded twice in my time, once for nine days and once for four! I have went nine days without food a number of times so I believe that he would have lastd at least that long! God may have been with him here and I am just glad that he is ok!

Why does this guy's picture look like the cover of some campy 70's folk music album? I would title it, "Louis Rogers sings for you."

Natural selection almost go this one. Why would anybody thing that road would be open in the winter. You probably can't even drive over that pass until late June most years. The summit on this pass is nearly 6000' in elevation and probably has 7' of snow covering the road right now. Some people really define stupid.

This is a remarkable story. I'm glad the gentleman is safe and sound. How scared he must have been. Were there no family members wandering where he was? Kudos to the couple who helped him.
