KOOTENAI COUNTY—Authorities blamed a DUI crash on knocking out power to people in the Coeur d’Alene area Tuesday afternoon.

Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash on Huetter Road, just south of Prairie Avenue near Coeur d’Alene Tuesday afternoon. The crash caused power outages at several homes and traffic lights in the area for a short time.

Authorities said the driver of a 2013 Nissan Altima, 43-year-old James Clark, was speeding when his car crossed the centerline, continued through the southbound lane and struck an Avista Utilities power pole.

The pole fell into the lane, but Clark was not injured.

Clark was arrested for a felony charge of Driving Under the Influence, according to authorities. His BAC results were pending on Tuesday.

Clark has three prior arrests in Kootenai County for DUI, according to deputies.
