SPOKANE VALLEY -- Every time the Millwood Presbyterian Church hands out food, there is a line of people waiting for it.
More than 8,000 pounds of food were distributed last month, and it all went to help 700 people in just two hours.
Today they did that same distribution again. Every second Friday of the month, the Millwood Presbyterian Church plans to hand out food from noon to 2 p.m., at 3223 North Marguerite Road.
Donna Sampson stopped by, looking for fresh fruits and bread. Sampson is on a fixed income and relies on neighborhood food distributions to help stretch her dollars a little further.
"Canned food I don't have so much trouble with, we try to stick with fresh food and I can't afford those at the grocery store, it's way out of our budget," said Sampson.
Some of the people there do have jobs, but still need help. One woman said she's not used to asking for help, but it's the only way she can provide for her family right now.
"It's really hard to come out and ask for help when you don't necessarily qualify for it, but it does really help out," she said.
And as people went through line filling up boxes with food, the gratitude showed on their faces.
