SPOKANE, Wash. – Traffic will only be allowed as far as the Cenex gas station on Cheney Spokane Road as the Washington Department of Transportation completes three ramps for the new interchange project at U.S. Highway 195. The closure begins at 9 p.m. Tuesday and continues through May 23.

Traffic will be diverted about one mile south to Qualchan Road. The Washington Department of Transportation warns drivers entering or exiting Qualchan Road to make sure they have enough clearance before they try to cross north or southbound 195.

Only southbound Highway 195 traffic will be allowed to turn onto Qualchan Road. Northbound drivers needing to take Qualchan Road will need to continue all the way north to Cheney Spokane Road or Inland Empire Way, make a U-turn, and travel back south to get onto Qualchan Road.

Drivers accessing the Cenex station at Cheney Spokane Road should watch out for U-turning traffic.

The Washington Department of Transportation considers this a very high impact traffic project.

A ribbon cutting will open three of the four new ramps associated with the new interchange on May 23. The fourth ramp will be under construction following that, but WSDOT officials have not announced a completion date.
