SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. -- A burglar startled a homeowner Sunday who happened to be sleeping.

It happened near the 19000 block of North Dunn Road.

The 38-year-old victim thought she heard the Christmas tree fall over.  When she went to investigate, she noticed a person coming up the stairs toward her.

When she screamed, the burglar ran back down the stairs, according to police.  The suspect tried to exit at the patio door but was unable to open the door.  The victim yelled at the suspect to remove the stick from the runner in order to open the door.

The victim could not see the suspect’s entire face because he was wearing a stocking cap and face mask, said authorities.  She said she could tell he was a white male and that he had an average build.  A K9 search ended on the side of a road in a wooded area where the suspect possibly left in a vehicle.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for anyone providing information leading to an arrest in this incident.  Persons with information should call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 1-800-222-TIPS, or should forward the tip via the Internet website
