SPOKANE, Wash -- Spokane Police detectives confirmed early Thursday a body was found near railroad tracks in Spokane.
The Spokane County medical examiner's office identified the man found dead on railroad tracks in Spokane Thursday as 40-year-old William L. Water The cause of death is pending.
Authorities said a passerby spotted the body just after 9 a.m. and called 911.
Detectives described the scene as “gruesome” and said the victim had likely been hit by a train at some point.
While the investigation was underway, authorities said BNSF trains would have to be diverted.
