SPOKANE – Bryant McKinley is an avid cyclist with a lofty goal. He wants to compete in and win the USA Cycling Masters Road Nationals.
But the Spokane athlete has an extra challenge to overcome.
McKinley is blind.
He needed a teammate for the tandem race, one that couple help steer him toward his dream.
His old friend Thomas Lynch answered the call. They have known each other for years.
The pair has been riding together for about three weeks, and in that time they have logged more than 600 miles together.
“We’re getting better and better every day,” McKinley said.
On September 5th, McKinley and Lynch will compete in Bend, Oregon. The course is 80 miles long. Despite Bryant’s blindness, the pair is eager.
Even if they don’t bring home the championship jersey, training and laughing has been half the fun.
