MOSES LAKE, Wash. -- Classes for a brand new course at Big Bend Community College are underway. It's not your typical learning environment. Students told KREM 2 they couldn't wait to start helicopter training.

The helicopter course is a partnership between the college and Inland Helicopters of Spokane. Helicopter training hasn't been available at the school since the 1970's. It's the only program of it's kind in Eastern and Central Washington where students can train to become pilots while earning an associate degree.

"This is a very unique flying environment," said flight instructor Alan Bly. "We're able to fly with F 18's, C 17's, black hawk helicopters, all in the same day."

Several students in the program are veterans. The course is GI Bill approved and completely covered for them.

If you're interested, you can still get enrolled this week. It will also be offered spring semester.
