SPOKANE -- Bank security is being boosted across Spokane. Police and even the FBI are investigating several local bank robberies in the last few months.
Just this week there was a bank robbery in Spokane. On Wednesday, June 30, a woman with red hair and sunglasses robbed the Banner Bank branch on 933 East Mission.
Now it appears some banks are doing more to try to protect themselves and their customers. An armed guard was spotted outside the Bank of America on Southeast and 29th. The guard was out several different times throughout the day. But this was not the only bank with extra security. KREM 2 News also spotted an armed officer inside the Chase bank on 29th and Grand.
Some people who saw the guard at the Bank of America said it seemed like a good way to deter criminals from trying to rob the bank.
Employees at the bank did not want to answer any questions. But they did say they hired the guard from an outside company. They will be continuing to use an armed guard at random times of the day and weeks to come.
