COEUR D'ALENE -- Hospital officials say a 3-year-old Post Falls boy is in critical condition, and police say it is because his babysitter injured him.
On Monday, Post Falls Police officers responded to the 500 block of North Elm Road for a report of a 3 year-old male child who was breathing but unresponsive.
Family members say the boy is 3-year-old Cohen Johnson.
Officers say the 25-year-old babysitter told them she was removing the boy's urine soaked clothes when he went "limp" and unresponsive.
Johnson was immediately taken to Kootenai Medical Center, but soon flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane when the full extent of his injuries came to light.
Hospital officials say a C.T. scan revealed a bleeding skull fracture. Johnson underwent emergency surgeries and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Because hospital officials believed the injury was suspicious, detectives interviewed the babysitter, who soon admitted to becoming frustrated with Johnson after he urinated himself, and shoved him to the ground.
Officers say the babysitter is friend of the family. Charges are pending in this case.
According to police, another child under 2-years-old age was also in the home, but was uninjured.
Friends of the family tell KREM 2 News they've set up a fund for Cohen at Banner Bank. If you'd like to donate you can do so at any local branch, and they say the money will be used for Cohen's medical expenses.
