COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho -- The Kootenai County Coroner’s Office has concluded the autopsy of a man shot during an incident with Coeur d’Alene Police Sunday morning.
Officials said the autopsy results confirmed that Eric Johnston died from gunshot wounds. The Coroner’s office is still waiting for toxicology results.
Officials said Johnston was killed on the scene after an apparent altercation over a hit-and-run incident. Johnston reportedly hit and severed a light pole with a vehicle around Dollar and Lost Avenue. Authorities said they tracked him down and an altercation ensued after officers made contact.
The incident is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police. Authorities said the officers involved are on administrative leave.
The Coeur d’Alene Police extend their sympathies to Johnston’s family.
