SPOKANE -- The investigation is growing surrounding poisonous meatballs killing Spokane dogs. Another possible deadly meatball was found Friday in the backyard of a South Hill home. To make matters worse, these neighbors already lost two dogs to strychnine poisoning.
This could be the fifth deadly meatball found in about a month. For the Cheney family, the moment they saw the meatball, they knew not to take any chances. This is the third meatball David Cheney has found at his house in less than a month.
The Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service is not sure if the latest meatball is new or left from the last incident. It will have to be sent down to the lab in Moscow to get tested like the rest.
Cheney knows all too well about strychnine's deadly effects. It has already killed his dogs Abby and Snoopie. And now he worries about the two he still has left.
The test results from the last meatball found have not been released. But experts say whenever you see green/blue dye on a piece of food, it is a pretty strong indication of strychnine.
