SPOKANE, Wash. -- Gonzaga University leaders announced plans to build a new student center on campus. The announcement came on Friday thanks to an anonymous donation.
The current student center, know as the COG, was built almost 60 years ago. The COG building sits along Desmet and Dakota. Students told KREM 2 News that the COG is the heart of campus but said the current building is too small.
"I'm pretty excited, the COG is awesome but it's a little outdated," said freshman Kayla Taggerd.
University leaders outlined their plan which includes demolish the current COG building and replacing it with a 165,000 sq. foot facility. School leaders said the new building will feature meeting spaces, an auditorium, and a ballroom according to staff.
Gonzaga University leaders did not reveal when construction would start or end. The plans for a new student center will be presented to the Board of Governors in April.
