COLVILLE-- A Colville teenager was reunited with her family on Monday after being found wandering the streets of New York over the weekend. Kacie Peterson was found with no memory and no form of identity. Now the staff at Colville High School says they know exactly who she is. They wish they had seen the picture of her earlier. They describe her as really quite. Authorities in New York found the 18-year-old alone in front of a homeless shelter with no idea who she was. She could remember parts of a fantasy book but not much else. Police ran her fingerprints, but nothing came back. Then they released her picture and that’s when people in Colville recognized her. Kevin Knight, Colville High School principal, says he recognized Kacie from the photo. She lived in Colville for years and went to high school there, but didn’t graduate. After Colville, she moved to Kitsap County where she was going to Kingston High School. She told police she doesn’t know how she got to New York, and still doesn’t remember anything about her past. Peterson’s family told KREM 2 News her father did go to New York to bring her home.

Thank goodness she has been identified. How scarey it must have been to be so far away from home and have this happen. I hope she finds the help she needs
